Egg Boy…

Heard of him? His name is William Connolly and he achieved a level of internet/cultural super-stardom because he cracked an egg on the back of Australian Senator Fraser Anning’s head.

Why did he do this to this to Mr. Anning? Because Mr. Anning, a self-avowed White Supremacist, stated the horrific massacre of 50 Muslim worshipers in New Zealand a couple of days ago was somehow their own fault.

Don’t believe me? Check out this article by Andy Campbell and found on Huffingtonpost.com:

Australian Senator Blames Muslims for New Zealand Massacre

So, Mr. Connolly, a 16 year old boy, cracked an egg on the back of Mr. Anning’s head and the resulting reaction by Mr. Anning and his people, as detailed in this article by Briana Ellison and found on Washingtonpost.com:

Punching a teenager over an egg really isn’t a good look for a politician

Here is a video of the entire encounter:

I thinks its fair to say no one likes the idea of assaulting people. I certainly don’t like the idea of someone hitting another person with a fist, an egg, a tomato, or whatever.

But you know what I hate even more?

Fifty people killed by a maniac with a semi-automatic weapon -and some 50 more in critical condition- and then hearing some loudmouth ignorant politician justify the actions of this homicidal maniac as the victims getting what they deserved.

An egging seems pretty tame in comparison.

But to some, the egging was a deadly sin. James Woods, no stranger to right wing frothing, denounced egg boy’s actions. So too did actor Dean Cain, who stated on twitter: I would have knocked that kid cold.

This led to plenty of criticism, much of which you can find in this article by Ed Mazza and found on (again) Huffingtonpost.com:

Ex-Superman actor Dean Cain’s Hot Take on Egg-Boy

The pile on against Mr. Cain was swift and at times brutal.

I want to move away from Mr. Cain, Woods, and Anning and state: What the hell is going on with the world these days?

I worry the influence on current political figures and their at times subtle and at times in your face statements are having a negative effect on people. It seems like we’re unleashing people’s collective ids and, yes, it seems to coincide with the election of one Donald J. Trump.

I’m not saying he’s to blame for all this. The hatreds were clearly there, mostly under the surface, perhaps held back. But nowadays hearing people excuse the actions of terrible people, as Anning did, then somehow fault a relatively harmless action by a teenager as deserving a whipping, seems odd at best and scary at worst.

Mr. Cain, Mr. Woods, Mr. Anning: How in the world can you on the one hand seem relatively un-bothered by the cold-blooded murder of fifty innocent people in a house of worship (I don’t recall seeing any mention of them tweeting about that to any degree… if they did, my apologies) and then they get riled up with the mischievous and certainly non-lethal actions of a teenager?

The world has truly turned upside down.

Breaking (political) News…

POLITICS… BEWARE…!!!

Today’s latest lunacy, from CNN and written by Katelyn Polantz, Sara Murray, and David Shortell:

Mueller indicts Roger Stone

Image result for roger stone
The man himself…

Mr. Stone’s home was raided, he was arrested, and later today he’ll be in court (11 AM, according to the news) for his part in the Trump Presidential Campaign’s dirty tricks… specifically involving Wikileaks, Russia, and the stealing of various Democratic official’s emails and their release.

All designed to bring down/hurt the Hillary Clinton campaign and aid the Trump campaign.

As more and more time passes, I find the whole thing depressing because I’m becoming more and more convinced this was very much an election that was stolen by the use of fake news (which people like Trump are so fond of talking about… projection at its best!), disinformation, and clever use of social media.

It’s taken a while -two years now!- since the election but it seems more and more of the dirty, and illegal, details behind this election are coming to the fore.

The big question is: Now that he’s been arrested and indicted… will Roger Stone flip?

He’s spent many, many months saying he’d never talk, but now that he’s facing jail time, one wonders. It’s easy being brave and talking tough when you’re in your home and environs. It’s quite another thing when you’re facing that cell.

What a cluster… well… you know.

Hmmm… what took them so long…?

Politics, BEWARE…!

Though it has been looked at before, it appears that in these past few days a greater focus seems to be finally, finally developing with regard to Donald Trump’s very odd fascination with Russia and its ruler.

Considering all the things he’s done so far (from changing the Republican platform to the weird private/secret meeting with Putin to the glowing things he’s said about him while lambasting our allies), it’s about time.

2018 (soon to be) in the rearview mirror…

Over at Salon.com, author Mary Elizabeth Williams notes sanguinely…

2018 Has Been The Longest Year Ever

She lists a bunch of stuff that’s happened… I recall it all… but what’s shocking is that it all happened this year.

Holy Moley!

So much stuff has happened this past year, much of it related to Trump and his highly competent and not at all corrupt (cough) government, that it’s hard to keep track of everything going on.

Ah, for the days when things were calmer and we weren’t lurching from one “big” news event and into another!

This ‘n that…

Politics…BEWARE!!!

The elections have come and gone and, truly, it was wonderful to see so many people get out there and vote.

Not everything went the way I was hoping (frankly, the idea of seeing any more of Rick Scott is enough to freeze the blood in my veins), but if one subscribes to the notion of “checks and balances” and further would like the Trump administration held accountable for its actions, then you couldn’t have asked for more.

Even more encouraging is this: Despite all the gerrymandered districts, despite the fact that Democrats had to vote in numbers far, FAR higher than Republicans to even hope to get their representatives in office, the vote count was decidedly lopsided toward Democrats, even if it does appear the Republicans will gain in the Senate.

It has been noted that Republicans have been getting less and less votes but because of issues such as gerrymandering and, in the case of Trump’s election, the electoral college system, they’ve nonetheless won.

It appears people are finally having quite enough of that and more and more people are voting.

Now, let’s see if I can relax for a while -maybe a day or two- before we start the inevitable talk of 2020.

Yikes!

😉

Elections are right around the corner…

…tomorrow to be exact.

I don’t want to get partisan nor engage in that old finger wagging, but the fact of the matter is that everyone should vote.  You should make your opinions known, even if they are opinions I may personally oppose.

To those who don’t vote yet complain afterwards about this political issue or that… truly, you blew it.

Make your opinions known and, who knows, maybe things get better.

All the negative news of late…

…I mean, it’s exhausting and depressing and you feel so freaking bad about the way this country is going and then to see the “Commander in Chief” actively try to ignore all the fires he’s stoked, then switch gears and “blame” the media as if somehow they’re the ones culpable for the extremists and their actions.

The darkness exposed and, sadly, reinforced by the statements and non-statements of Mr. Trump are bad enough, but to see people die and find themselves in life threatening situations… it makes you despair.

But all is not lost.

I know its a cliche, but if you don’t like what’s happening, if you want change –real change- and a country and politicians you can be proud of who work for the good of people instead of those with the darkest of dark impulses, then VOTE.

It’s a cliche, I know, but VOTE.

Make yourself heard.

Make yourself count.

You should be doing this EVERY election.

Crazytown…

Yesterday was even crazier than usual, if you’re the type (like me at times) to follow U.S. politics.

Yes, beware, kind folks… what follows is…

POLITICS!

First up and the day before was the revelations of Bob Woodward’s upcoming novel, Fear: Trump In The White House, painted a -surprise, surprise!- picture of extreme dysfunction in the  Trump administration.

So you figure: That’s going to be the big news of the day.  I mean, Woodward is a very prestigious journalist.  He’s 1/2 of the team that wrote All The President’s Men, which painted a grim picture of Richard Nixon and no doubt led to his presidential demise.

Naturally, Trump had plenty to say, negative naturally, regarding the book, but as it turned out that book was nothing compared to the bombshell that appeared yesterday in The New York Times.

A current, senior White House official, writing anonymously, wrote an OP piece wherein s/he offers a chilling glimpse behind the curtains at the Trump White House, and his/her message is that they are part of a “resistance”, adults in the room who are trying to contain Trump and his negative impulses.  Here it is:

I am part of the Resistance inside the Trump administration

Yikes.

Here’s some more, from Brian Stelter and presented on CNN.com, which goes into…

The story behind the New York Times’ anonymous op-ed blasting Trump

There followed immediate reaction from the pundits, those who wondered about the ethics of presenting an “anonymous” op-ed piece.  There were those who were happy to hear someone -anyone!- within that administration finally admit what is all too clear for all to see.

I’m of two minds here: I think people should speak out on what is so freaking clear to anyone who even casually looks: This administration is run by someone who, putting it most kindly, is waaaaaaaay out of his depth.  A man who should never have been elected county dog catcher, much less President of the United States of America.

On the other hand: Don’t be a coward.  You don’t like what’s going on?  Quit.

Publicly, with this opinion piece being your resignation letter.

Too many people are being too damn meek about pushing back against Trump and, sadly, this goes for both Democrats and, most especially, Republicans.

It’s frightening to think that there are people working for Trump who ignore his directives or, as the op-ed piece states, even remove papers with Presidential policies from his desk before he can make them official and/or implement them.

Scary times, for sure.

Sometimes, the headline says it all…

From the Miami Herald, our local paper, comes this story which I just HAD to read.  Frankly, I still find it hard to believe…

From Huffington Post and written by Ron Dicker,

Miami Herald endorses candidate who says she was abducted by space aliens

We live in most interesting times, ladies and gentlemen.

Ho boy… politics and news

Nowadays and in the political sphere, things come at you fast and furious.

Yesterday, for example, Donald Trump called in to Fox and Friends and ranted and raved to such an extent that over on Reddit, they posted this amusing graphic showing the Trump-lover hosts before and nearing the end of the interview:

The actual full phone call/interview, if you dare!

If you’re curious for even more stuff, there are plenty of comments and takes on this off the rails phone call/interview.  You can read it over here:

Before and after your call to the President

A comment by Ryepodz at that link noted the following regarding the video:

At 13:43 you can hear a producer or staff in the background saying “oh god…” At 13:55 he says “jesus christ…”

Wading through all the crap Trump said, one of the things that really hurt him was stating that Attorney Michael Cohen barely did anything for him and, further, he admitted for the first time that Cohen handled the Stormy Daniels affair, comments which not two hours later was presented to the judge handling the Michael Cohen case as evidence that the documents seized from him were not subject to the attorney/client confidentiality provisions.

Man, talk about shooting yourself in the… foot.

If you want still more information about this, check out this article by Chris Cillizza over at CNN.com where he encapsulates…

The 53 most stunning lines from Donald Trump’s Fox and Friends interview

But that’s not all!

The second bit of big news is that actor/comedian Bill Cosby was found guilty of sexual assault against Andrea Constand.  Ms. Constand was quite literally the last person who could bring Mr. Cosby to justice as the many, many women who have subsequently come out and given testimony eerily similar regarding Mr. Cosby’s actions (ie, drugging then sexually assaulting them) had already passed the time limits for prosecution.

Mr. Cosby was supposedly unemotional when the guilty verdict was read but he had an outburst following the verdict and when talk turned to revoking his bail.  In arguing to revoke his bail, Prosecutors stated he had an airplane and might use it to flee.  At that point Mr. Cosby blurted out: “He doesn’t have a plane, asshole.”

Yes, Mr. Cosby referred to himself in the third person.

One can only guess that the gravity of his predicament finally came into focus at that point.

Anyway, if you want to read more about that, here’s an article about the trail by Eric Levenson and presented on CNN.com:

The long, winding path to Bill Cosby’s guilty verdict

But wait, there’s still more!

As if all that wasn’t enough, later in the afternoon came this stunning news, which you can read in the article by Joshua Berlinger, Nick Thompson, and Euan McKirdy and presented on the below link:

North and South Korea leaders hold historic summit and pledge to end Korean War

Wow… just… wow.

It wasn’t all that long ago that the very real fear a potential nuclear war might occur because of the actions of North Korean leader Kim.  His provocative missile “tests”, his nuclear ambitions…

So what exactly happened?

I suspect a few things, and one of them is this: Donald Trump.

There’s an old cliche that goes like this: Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Mr. Trump’s instability and outrageous threats leveled at Kim, I suspect, unnerved him.  Previous U.S. Presidents, Kim knew, wouldn’t risk a nuclear war and, perhaps, that emboldened him to push his luck with them.

But because Trump is so out there, he might (and, I repeat, might) have finally gotten worried that he was facing someone as crazy as he was projecting himself out to be and, therefore, the risk of a war was suddenly far higher.

Note, there are certainly other factors.  Leader Kim went to China, which suggested the mighty country might have finally decided to reign him in.  There is also talk that his latest nuclear tests might have collapsed the entire research facilities he had in the mountains for them.

Regardless, these factors -and, yes, including Donald freaking Trump- I believe played into the stunning news presented yesterday.

Will Kim continue down this path?

For the sake of the world, one hopes so.
